This performance-making workshop is a creative exchange between Japan and Malaysia, for artistic intervention. 10 slots are available to practitioners of the arts, architecture, urban planning, and local practitioners experienced in site-specific art. This collaboration uses walking to explore urban environments, helping participants uncover layers of the built environment and cultural narratives.

Ryo Kobayashi

Born in Japan in 1991, Ryo Kobayashi is a certified psychiatrist and director. After graduating, he studied applied theatre in England and joined Seinendan's directing department. He creates immersive theatres and walking tour performances that explore the relationship between the audience and the performers. Additionally, he works as a workshop facilitator, seeking the intersection of health promotion, education, community, and theatre.
Fumi Tomioka (Dance Artist)
Fumi began studying modern ballet at the age of 9 and pursued further studies at Laban Centre in London from 2001 to 2002. In the years 2006-2007, she received a scholarship, the Overseas Study Programme for Artists, awarded by the Japanese government, which enabled her to research Candoco Foundation courses while assisting students as a body-conditioning instructor. From 2008 to 2009, Fumi worked as one of Aki Kawashita's assistants for inclusive dance improvisation workshops and performances in Tokyo. During this time, Fumi also accompanied a group of dancers, including Aki, to an inclusive art festival in Cambodia, where she worked as an interpreter. In 2010-2011, she completed her MA in Choreography at Middlesex University, London. Throughout her stay in London until the end of 2017, she actively participated in numerous outdoor performances. In 2019, she collaborated with Aki Kawashita to create dance videos and used them to take part in concerts of the Laptop Orchestra by Nela Brown. In 2020, she was involved in Aki Kawashita's Tokyo "Yell for art!" project, contributing to the creation of a movement video. In 2021, she participated in Ryo Kobayashi's Outdoor Performance Project in Toyooka, and in 2022, she was part of Ryo's Troll Forest Project. You can find some photos of her work here. Kenichi Abe (Dramaturg)
Kenichi Abe is the director of a theatre company called "uni" and specializes in regional planning studies. He is actively involved as a playwright, director, and dramaturg in performing arts and art projects set in the city. During his graduate studies, he focused on community development and regional planning, with an emphasis on resident participation. He is also engaged in research and planning for public spaces, striving to bridge the gap between the city and the performing arts, as well as between the field and academia.
